25 Years of Excellence: The TransNet NZ Journey

From modest beginnings in 2000 to a future-forward, sustainability-led enterprise in 2025, TransNet NZ has remained true to its founding principles: Quality, Commitment, and Reliability.

Founded by Spencer Winn, a Canadian-born Kiwi with deep roots in regional New Zealand, TransNet began with just three employees in a small East Tamaki unit. Back then, the vision was bold and the product range humble, but the drive to bring a new way of supplying the electricity industry in New Zealand was unmistakable.

Within two years, our operations expanded to support exports to the Pacific Islands, and by 2004, we'd grown into a custom-renovated facility in Neilpark Drive. It was there that our innovation culture began to flourish, launching divisions like Switchgear, ECOLight, e-Mobility and our in-house R&D team.

That pioneering spirit defined our journey through the 2000s and in early 2010 we became TE Connectivity's exclusive New Zealand distributor of the Raychem and Utilux ranges. In order to do this well we built a Raychem kitting room onsite. This remains the only TE certified Raychem Cable Accessory kitting facility outside their own facilities – a milestone that still fills us with pride.

The 2016 move to our custom-built Cryers Road facility marked the next leap. Designed with sustainability and scalability in mind, we installed and commissioned a 544 panel, 150kW solar microgrid, featuring energy-smart tech which powers our facility for most of every day. We set up a water capturing system for non-potable water to use around the facility and comprehensive recycling programme to cover everything from food scraps to cardboard and even polystyrene and batteries, all this contributing to our ISO certifications.

At the heart of it all is people. With just over 70 staff across all our locations, many of whom have been with us for more than a decade, we're able to offer our customers a service level second to none. Our culture thrives on teamwork, ownership, and genuine care for our customers. We've never had a receptionist or an answering machine in the office because every member of our team understands the philosophy of immediate and personal assistance for all enquiries.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we remain proudly New Zealand owned and operated, supporting local wherever possible and championing regional manufacturing through our R&D-led products like the ECOPillar, ECOBlock, TUDS and EV charging infrastructure products.

With ISO 14001 certification, GHG emission reporting, and a growing focus on local solutions for all areas of our business including e-Mobility and HV testing solutions, we're not just meeting the future – we're helping shape it.

We'd like to thank all our customers and suppliers that have joined us on this journey so far and look forward to the next 25!
